Coaching Profile

Kevin Crum Jr. joined the University of Miami as the Learning Learning Specialist for the Athletic Academic Services Department in the Summer of 2019. Mr. Crum has an extensive background of promoting and achieving high academic performance from student-athletes as a classroom teacher, athletic coach and academic coach, and sports administrator at the high school and collegiate levels. Before arriving at the University of Miami, Crum was the academic coach at Edward Waters College within the department of Teacher Education and Urban Studies Department. Crum’s duties were counseling and advising students and student-athletes on academic, career and personal issues and developing educational and career goals. Before arriving at Edward Waters College, Crum was the assistant men’s basketball coach at Talladega College under 2018 GCAC Men's basketball Coach of the Year Fred Summers leadership. There he was able to develop Devonte Dixon SG NAIA Men's Basketball All-America, Honorable Mention GCAC Player of the year and, all-defensive team and Khaliel Spearman SG GCAC Second Team All-Conference. He was responsible for monitoring and managing the academic progress of the men’s basketball team, which earned a 2.9 GPA and Dean’s Honor Roll recognition for 20% of the basketball student-athletes.

Before arriving at Talladega College, Crum served several years as a classroom teacher, athletic coach, and athletic director at high schools in Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. Crum was Tennessee Preparatory Academy Assistant boys' basketball Coach for National High School & 5th Year (Post Grad) Basketball Program. Here he was able to developed Chris Sodom 7'3" Georgetown University Signee & Will Magnum UMKC -California Before Tennessee Preparatory Academy, Crum was assistant men's basketball coach at Lincoln Trail College, Robinson Illinois where he was the overseer for recruiting and team academics. Crum Recruited and Developed Sam Mack Jr. with Southern University and Son of Sam Mack Sr. who played with five different NBA teams over ten years and has had a 20-year international basketball career. Crum Mentors and Developed Brian Givens Columbus State University standout point guard who transferred from Lincoln Trail to Northeast Community College Mississippi where both Crum & Givens are alumnus.

Crum also worked with the Central Florida Marvel, professional basketball team as an assistant coach under Luke Stuckey, former assistant coach/player development with the Orlando Magic along with NBA vet Chucky Atkins. That's not the only professional experience for Crum. He served as a Basketball Operations Intern with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he helped the scouting and coaching staff with daily operations.

While in Orlando Florida Evans High School Crum worked as an assistant under 14-year NBA Vet Chucky Atkins as the Head Coach Atkins led Evans High School to 2013 and 2014 7A and 8A State Championship Runners - UP. At Evans High Crum developed Virginia Tech/University of Florida PF Kerry Blackshear and Kent State PG Courtney Williamson. As the athletic director and assistant coach for the boy's basketball team at Liberty Christian Prep, Tavares Florida Crum developed Sylvain Francisco who went from high school to pro-Paris-Levallois Basket (France), Robert Thomas Edward Waters College (Jacksonville, FL), Alberto Moreno, University of Tampa. (FL) Francis Agbata, Freed-Hardeman University (TN)

Also, while in Jackson, Tennessee South Side High School Crum developed Albert Meriwether Harlem Globetrotters Team Member, Jaylen Barford with the Charlotte Hornets, and Leland Robinson TuS ADEMAX Red Devils Brams Professional basketball. He also served as a summer camp coach at Baylor University, Georgetown University, Ohio State University, University of Arizona, Marquette University and Vanderbilt University.

Crum is earning his Doctorate in Global Sports Leadership from East Tennessee State University class of 2022 Crum earned a Masters in Sports Administration from Tennessee State University. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education from Lane College, where he was a member of the 2005 SIAC Men's Basketball Conference Championship team led by Dr. J.L Perry He also played basketball at Northeast Mississippi Community College playing along 2002 1st round and 21st pick for the Portland Trail Blazers Qyntel Woods. Crum is a full-time single father of his eleven-year-old daughter Zamorah
